Most romantic comedies end with a proposal, however The Five Year Engagement is a little different. It begins with the couple getting engaged, and then proceeds to follow them through the trials and tribulations of organising a wedding and overcoming hurdles along the way.
Director Nicholas Stroller and writer/actor Jason Segel must have liked collaborating on Forgetting Sarah Marshall, as they have teamed-up again to bring us what will hopefully be a glorious barrage of hilarious moments, all wrapped up in a lovely, film-shaped package.
Written by the dynamic duo, the comedy stars Segel, as well as Emily Blunt, who appeared in The Muppets film alongside Segel as Miss Piggy’s receptionist. It also stars Rhys Ifans, Hugh Grant’s bumbling flatmate in Notting Hill, Chris Pratt who plays Andy in American comedy Parks & Recreation and Alison Brie (Community, Mad Men). It is produced by Stroller, Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) and Rodney Rothman (Get Him to the Greek).
We still don’t know what will keep tripping the engaged couple up as they attempt to walk down the aisle, but one thing’s for sure – with a line-up like that, it is sure to be nothing less than hilarious.
