Time Out has teamed up with MGM HD and The Old Vic Tunnels this month to present Nights of Noir – three nights of screening six of the greatest film noir movies ever made, along with a pre-show theatrical experience, and a post-show Q&A with film critic Dave Calhoun.
Nights of Noir takes places from 9th-11th November, and the classics of the film noir genre include: Robert Aldrich’s Kiss Me Deadly, David Lynch’s iconic Blue Velvet , tense thriller The Night of the Hunter starring Robert Mitchum at his best, Coen Brothers‘ classic Fargo, Kubrick’s heist The Killing, and Robert Altman’s neo-noir The Long Goodbye.
The Nights of Noir then continues on Sky Channel 313, with a season of noir gems from the 12th-18th November, including Killer’s Kiss, The Sweet Smell of Success and A Kiss Before Dying. These films will be available to watch on MGM HD to all those with a Sky HD+ Box via Sky Movies HD Dual or as a standalone channel for just £5 per month.
The Old Vic Tunnels are set to be transformed for the event by noir specialist Philip Wilson, to re-create archetypal film noir locations such as shadowy back alleys and run-down bars, whilst live musicians will play music of the era. Plus, don’t be surprised if you happen to bump into a sceptical detective, a glamorous femme fatale or dodgy criminal or two as you explore this evocative location.
