One of our favourite stories from childhood, Red Riding Hood, has once again been turned into a film and it’s looking pretty promising.
It is directed by Catherine Hardwicke, the lady behind Twilight and Thirteen. Twilight had the biggest opening ever for a female director, and rightly so as she did an excellent job of turning the first Stephanie Meyer book into a film. Unfortunately, she wasn’t asked back to direct the sequel.
Not that that matters though, as she has got the chance to try new things, such as a supernatural version of Hamlet with Emile Hirsch, and of course, Red Riding Hood.
Red Riding Hood isn’t your average fairytale version of the story, in fact, is it billed as a horror. It is about a medieval village which is haunted by a werewolf. At the same time a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, which really upsets her family.
The film also stars Virginia Madsen, Billy Burke and Julie Christie.
The trailer definitely has a Twilight feel to it and is visually stunning. Take a look at trailer and let us know what you think.
Red Riding Hood will be in UK cinemas from April 15th 2011
