The latest trailer has been revealed for Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The excitement surrounding this film continues to mount as the latest trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes is released. Unlike previous trailers, this one gives us much more insight into what we can expect to see from the lead ape, Caesar, played by Andy Serkis and digitally created by Weta Digital.
Serkis is no stranger to playing CGI characters, having previously worked with Weta for his role of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy (which he’ll be reprising for the upcoming adaptations of The Hobbit over the next couple of years).
Rise of the Planet of the Apes sees Serkis joined by James Franco, playing scientist Will Rodman, who carries out medical tests on apes as a part of a search for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, as well as John Lithgow, Brian Cox and Slumdog Millionaire actress, Freida Pinto.
The script has been penned by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, and directed by Rupert Wyatt, who was nominated for eight international film awards following his 2008 prison thriller, The Escapist. Rise of the Planet of the Apes will act as a reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise, which currently consists of seven films, a television series, and comic book adaptations – all of which were originally based on the 1963 French novel, La Planète des Singes by Pierre Boulle (who also wrote Bridge over the River Kwai).
This latest adaptation is the first time in which the film’s ape characters have been created digitally using CGI technology, and is also reportedly set to be the foundation for a brand new series of films.
Although the film was originally scheduled to be released this month, it is now set to hit UK cinemas on the 12th August 2011 – we can’t wait!
