The teaser trailer for Scream 4, starring Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox, has appeared online…sort of.
The first trailer for the latest in Wes Craven’s Scream series was first shown at the Scream Awards a couple of days ago. Since then, fairly dodgy-looking copies have been popping up all over the web, before promptly being removed “due to a copyright claim by Dimension Films.” Sigh.
However, we can tell you one or two things about the film. Like the previous Scream movies, Scream 4 will continue with its self-referential plot device, explaining the ‘rules’ of a horror movie while proceeding to conform to each of them. Film fan Randy (played by Jamie Kennedy) has been replaced by Charlie and Robbie (Rory Culkin and Erik Knudsen) who, from the clips we have managed to see, explains the ‘rules of a horror movie reboot’ – which include “the kills have got to be, like, way more extreme” and “the killer should be filming the murders” because “it’s the natural next step in psycho-slasher innovation”.
Yup, ‘Ghostface’ is back, but by all accounts he’s joining the digital generation and recording his killings… but apparently not uploading them onto the web. Neve Campbell will reprise her classic character of Sidney Prescott, and will be joined by Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere and Adam Brody. The film will also star David Arquette, who recently announced he was divorcing his co-star, Courtney Cox.
Scream 4 is yet to be given a UK release date, but it comes out in the US next April. Last time we saw the trailer it was here – we’ll keep you posted!
