The thirteen shortlisted films in this year’s Virgin Media Shorts competition have now been announced, and it’s time for the public to vote for the People’s Choice Award winner. Not only will one lucky filmmaker walk away with £5,000 funding, but they’ll also be given mentoring from the BFI!
On November 8th 2012 at BFI Southbank, the Virgin Media Short judges will announce the winners of the TiVo Award (voted for by Virgin media customers through their TiVo box), the Grand Prize (which will award one deserving filmmaker £30,000 in film funding) and the People’s Choice Award – with the winner chosen by public vote and granted £5,000 funding and BFI mentoring for their future projects.

The panel of judges deciding the fate of this year’s Grand Prize winner include renowned British actress Julie Walters, UK filmmakers Phyllida Lloyd and Mat Whitecross, Sundog Pictures’ founder Sam Branson and film critic James King, amongst others. The Virgin Media Shorts competition is the UK’s biggest shorts competition and prides itself on championing undiscovered talent, with 2009’s winner Luke Snellin’s short film Mixtape also being nominated for a BAFTA. He’ll also be making an appearance on the judging panel this year.
