The Three Stooges are comedy legends. Larry, Curly and Moe have influenced everything from contemporary comedy sketches to The Simpsons. Now, their unique brand of humour is being brought to life again.
Aw, c’mon, don’t moan – you guys must love remakes! Look at all the great remakes we’ve had! Oceans Eleven wasn’t terrible! What do you mean, they threw actors at it like confetti at a wedding and hoped? That’s not the right… never mind.
The skinny on this is that comedy legends The Three Stooges are being re-inserted into our modern cinema schedule, and the shooting starts mid-March 2011.
Who’s playing the funny trio? It’s yet to be decided, but my eyebrows definitely felt like rising when I saw Benecio Del Toro‘s name pop up. Not one you’d expect, but then again, he’s playing everything from a werewolf to Che Guevara these days, so it’s clear he’s a versatile enough actor to make the role seem high-quality, though comedy may trip him up.
The script is being penned by the incredibly talented Farrelly brothers (Dumb and Dumber, Me, Myself and Irene and so on), alongside Mike Cerrone, who worked with the brothers on Irene.
They’ve got the credentials, but like many remakes, it’s going to depend heavily on who appears in the classic roles. It could be anyone, but it would be a shame to miss out on letting an actor like Jim Carrey miss out on this, in favour of the Frat Pack. News as it comes, so – hey! Don’t poke me! Moe! Come here!
