Last night was the UK première of Tamara Drewe and the star Gemma Arterton proved that you don’t have to be caked in make-up to look like an A-Lister.
The 24-year-old Bond Girl looked beautiful as she walked the red carpet in Leicester Square wearing barely a scrap of make-up, in a simple but stunning Gucci dress and her hair in a pony tail.
She was joined on the carpet by co-star Dominic Cooper and various other cast members, including Lois Winstone and Tamsin Greig. The film is directed by Stephen Frears, who is well-known for The Queen.
The talk of the night was Lily Allen, who was showing her baby bump for the first time. She was there supporting her mother, Alison Owen, who produced the movie. Lily’s music also features in the film.
Tamara Drewe is an adaptation of a graphic novel by Posy Simmonds, which was first published in The Guardian’s review section.
It tells the story of Tamara, played by Gemma Arterton, who was once an ugly duckling with a big nose living in a country village. However after a nose job and a getting a great job in London, she returns once again to the countryside. Her ex-boyfriend (Luke Evans) declares he is in love with her, but his heart is broken as she is dating rock star Ben Sergeant (Dominic Cooper).
Speaking of her character, Gemma said: “She’s a femme fatale but she’s really lost, she’s desperate, she’s a very modern woman. I know a lot of women like Tamara Drewe.”
She went on to say: “She’s a little bit saucy and a bit promiscuous, but it was fun playing her.”
Tamara Drew will be in UK cinemas from September 10.
