“If I’m not me, then who the hell am I?” A line from the trailer of the Total Recall remake, spoken by Arnie substitute Colin Farrell. Ahead of its release in the US on 3rd August, the film has been given a new TV spot that you can see below.
It’s Colin Farrell’s turn to play Douglas Quaid, as he steps into Arnold Schwarzenegger’s gargantuan footsteps. In the adaptation of Phillip K. Dick’s short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale“, Farrell plays a factory worker who is dissatisfied with life. He goes to Rekall, a company that implants memories in the minds of their customers, that makes them think they have had an experience of their choice.
Anyone who has seen the original Total Recall will be able to see that the new trailer, which you can see below, features some scenes that look almost exactly like the first film (without the towering form of Arnie of course). From the moment when he jumps out of the Rekall chair and kills everyone in sight, to the encounter with a lady with three breasts, there is not merely a eerie echo of the original but a definite resemblance to what has gone before.
UK film fans will have to wait until 29th August to decide whether this similarity is a good thing, or whether in fact they should have left Arnie’s version well alone. Check out the TV spot and the trailer below, decide for yourself and let us know what you think!
