Lionsgate UK have announced that the thriller Tower Block will be released nationwide on 21st September 2012.
Written by James Moran who brought us the terrifying, gore-filled 2006 film Severance, Tower Block looks like it will have similar hide-behind-the-sofa elements. The fact that it is directed by James Nunn and Ronnie Thompson, who wrote and produced semi-biographical prison film Screwed in 2011, only backs up the likelihood that Tower Block will be captivatingly terrifying.
Stars of the film include Sheridan Smith, a regular on Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Jack O’Connell (Eden Lake, Harry Brown) and Russell Tovey (Being Human, History Boys). Also in the midst of the towering action will be Ralph Brown, who appeared in Killing Bono and Alien 3 and Kane Robinson, aka rapper Kano.
The story goes like this – the residents in Serenity House tower block witness a brutal killing. However, fear of retribution makes them too scared to go to the police and the investigation grinds to a halt. We then skip forward one year, to when the tower block tenants come under threat from a mystery sniper. Could it possibly be something to do with the murder they witnessed?
The twist is in the fact that deadly traps have been set in secret places inside tower block. Escaping does not go well for the tenants, and there will no doubt be plenty of gore to illustrate this. Will they be able to outwit a murderous sniper, or are they destined to forever remain prisoners in their own homes?
