The first trailer for The Bang Bang Club, starring Ryan Phillipe has come online. It’s not something dodgy though, as the title may suggest, in fact it’s a really serious film.
Alongside actors Neels Van Jaarsveld, Taylor Kitsch and Frank Rautenbach, Phillipe makes up a group of four young photographers who risk their lives to take hard-hitting pictures of the final days of the Apartheid regime in South Africa. It is based on a real life group of photographers.
The group start to struggle as they watch so many people die and they start to go into psychological meltdown. The light relief in the film comes from their editor, played by Malin Akerman, who falls for one of the group, at least, we’re hoping this storyline is a bit less intense.
The film, which is directed by Steven Silver, finished shooting back in 2009, however it has taken all this time to find a distributor.
The trailer looks promising and we’re liking the accents, but as the film got pretty mixed reviews when it played at various festivals we’re just going to wait and reserve judgement.
Take a look for yourself. What do you think?
