Yep, Stephanie Meyer really has written books that aren’t Twilight. The Host is another work of hers, and upcoming film adaptation now has an online trailer!

The Host's somewhat creepy cover. The Host is a novel in which Earth’s inhabitants are taken over by a new race, called Souls. Each possesses a human and takes them over completely. But what happens when someone doesn’t want to be taken over? That’s the case when a Soul by the name of Wanderer tries to claim Mel’s body, and Mel isn’t having any of it. The struggle for control which ensues will define the lives of both individuals, and Meyer’s trademark romantic notions find their way into the storyline in an unconventional way.

It sounds like a great book (one to add to the pile, methinks), and the film – directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord of War) and starring Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, The Lovely Bones) as Mel – is certainly competently staffed as far as that pair are concerned.

It’s not going to be another Twilight, but that’s probably for the same reasons that J.K. Rowling can never write another book that will match or top Harry Potter. However, there’s no doubting that Meyer knows her paranormal romance and human/inhuman drama, so it’s worth keep a close eye on this one, and perhaps delving into the novel itself in the meantime. The trailer sits below, so enjoy it! Happy Friday!
