When you hear the film title Mother’s Day, you might think a nice family film maybe in the same vein as Valentine’s Day, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Mother’s Day is actually a psychological horror thriller, from the king of gore and torture Saw‘s Darren Lynn Bousman.
A trailer for the film appeared online yesterday, although not the official version, it is actually a sales promo for potential distributors. But anyway it’s good enough and we get the gist of what we’re in for.
The film tells the story of three brothers who return home after a failed bank robbery, only to find that their mother has lost her home. They proceed to take hostage the family who now live in the home, along with some friends who are there for a party. Along comes Mother, who to be honest looks like a bit of a nutter, and takes control of the situation in a rather violent manner. It is a remake of a 1980s film of the same name.
The Mother is played by Rebecca De Mornay, who is no stranger to playing nutters as she starred in the popular 1992 The Hand That Rocks The Cradle. Jaime King and Frank Grillo play the new couple who have moved into the house.
Mother’s Day will be released at the beginning of April. It would be good if it was actually on Mother’s Day, wouldn’t it?
Director Bousman is being a very busy bee and is currently working on another new movie, filming in Spain. The film is, of course, a horror thriller called 11-11-11. The cast is relatively unknown and the plot is very religion heavy. It is interesting as it will involve concept art which people in the industry are already getting pretty excited about. Sound good to you?
