The first trailer for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom has arrived online, and it’s every bit as kooky as you might imagine.
Anderson has become renowned for his off-beat style of filmmaking and his latest cinematic offering looks set to follow suit. Set in 1960s America, Moonrise Kingdom follows the story of two twelve-year-olds, Sam and Suzy (played by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward), who fall in love and run away together. Unfortunately, there’s a big storm headed for the island on which they live, prompting the adults to fly into a frenzy as a search party head out to find the missing youngsters.
Despite the fact that his quirky style might not be to everyone’s taste, Anderson has also gained a reputation for rounding up an impressive cast. The upcoming film is set to feature Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton, as well as regular Anderson-collaborators, Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray.
Moonrise Kingdom is also the second film which Anderson has co-written with fellow director, Roman Coppola – the first being the 2007 comedy-drama, The Darjeeling Limited.
Moonrise Kingdom is released in the US on 25th May, with a UK release day yet to be announced. Meanwhile, take a look at the trailer below:
