The trailer for upcoming Clint Eastwood vehicle, Trouble With the Curve, has been released, with the veteran actor starring alongside the likes of Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake and John Goodman.
Back in 2008, it was hinted that Gran Torino might be the final film in which Eastwood would take on an acting role. However, it has since been revealed that the Oscar-winning actor would again appear in front of the camera in upcoming baseball drama, Trouble With the Curve, and the release of the trailer has finally given us a preview of his latest turn on screen. It’s also the first time that Eastwood has not directed himself as an actor since the 1993 thriller In The Line of Fire, although the film is helmed by Robert Lorenz, Eastwood’s frequent production partner.
Eastwood will take on the role of an ageing baseball scout, who decides to take his daughter, played by Adams, on a final recruiting trip. However, the pair have a delicate relationship, and things become even more complicated as she is wooed by an ex-baseball player and rival scout, played by Timberlake.
They’ll be joined by Goodman, who’s got to be looking forward to erasing the memories of his last stint on screen in the critically panned Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, as well as Scooby-Doo actor Matthew Lillard, newcomer Joe Massingill, and Clint’s son, Scott Eastwood.
Despite the fact that Eastwood’s Wikipedia page describes him as “an enduring cultural icon of masculinity,” Trouble With The Curve looks like it might provide a twist on the standard sports saga and reveal a slightly softer side. Along with the romantic sub-plot, there’s every chance that we could be in for something of a tearjerker with this film.
Even so, whilst Eastwood may have only starred in two comedies during his vast career (Every Which Way but Loose and its sequel Any Which Way You Can), Trouble With The Curve hints that his stubborn and grouchy character might also offer the chance for a fair few one-liners – let’s hope they haven’t put them all in the trailer!
Trouble With The Curve reached UK cinemas on 30th November this year – meanwhile, take a look at the trailer below!
